NORTHERN FAST ELECTRIC RACING CLUB
(Affiliated to the Model Power Boat Association)
This recently formed club is now a member of the Electric Section of the MPBA and operates on an equal footing as Electra. Each Club has its own series of races however in the near future discussions will take place to arrange the UK National Championships. The arrangements for the 2001 World Championships will remain with Electra but thereafter the Electric section of the MPBA will be responsible for the arrangements. (Electra and NFERC).
The NFERC intends to cater for the needs of all Fast Electric enthusiasts and is open to anyone in the UK .The emphasis is on providing the type of racing that the majority of UK racers want. In the UK there are a very small number of people who can afford to travel to World Championships and have the necessary equipment to compete. Most people want to have fun and race on a reasonably level playing field and that is what the new club intends to provide. It will however also provide for the needs of those wishing to compete internationally if there is sufficient interest.
For 2001 the series of races is based around the Northern Challenge that offers excellent prizes for the class winners. The three venues are 1. Bridlington Model Boat Club at Carnaby Industrial Estate, Bridlington. 2. Bury Model Boat Club at Bury Lido Princess Avenue, Bury. 3 Darlington & District Model Boat Club at the water park, Middleton St George, Darlington. All are excellent venues with a full range of facilities.
It is hoped that as the club grows more venues will become available.
Membership for 2001 is free because the club has a sponsor to get it up and running. A meeting will be arranged at the end of September 2001 when membership fees etc will be discussed. Although memberships is free for 2001,cards will be issued and anyone interested in becoming a member should apply to the person below.
An evaluation of data from Electra racing for the last two years clearly shows that people living in the south of the Country have not, with a very small number of exceptions, supported racing at the northern venues while most of the northern racers have supported the southern based venues. Financial considerations may be a factor in this problem and hopefully the introduction of the new club will encourage more people to race without having to travel excessive distances to do so. Equally arrangements for the UK Championships should be such that people can compete without the need to give up between 8 and 10 weekends during the summer months. More on this during the coming months.
